Program Design and Training

Mutrie Consulting creates lessons, events and support material to help teach the knowledge and skills needed to safely and confidently walk and bike throughout the community. Lynne can show you a series of wonderful, already developed programs or can help create a program that suits you community’s unique needs. Lynne also can design and/or deliver customized train-the-trainer modules.

Most recently, Lynne wrote, pilot tested and revised Oregon’s SRTS Currriculum, Neighborhood Navigators to teach safe, efficient and healthy transportation choices, pedestrian safety, community and neighborhood design.

All lessons and evaluation have been aligned to Oregon’s PE, Health and Comprehensive School Health academic standards. Lynne has given over 30 training workshops to teachers, educators and community advocates.

Other Examples

Portland Public Schools: Designed the Street Trust’s Pedestrian Safety lessons.

Beaverton School District: Assisted the final content for district’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Lessons and aligned content to district’s specific educational standards.

Hillsboro and Bend-LaPine School Districts: Assisted with developing district-wide Pedestrian Safety lessons.

Insurance Corporation of British Columbia: Co-wrote BikeSmarts.

ICBC and Manitoba Public Insurance: Produced CycleSmart CD ROM in 1998 and 2001.  If interested, please ask for copy.

Active Transportation Assembly: wrote lesson plan to promote pedestrian and/or bicycle safety  participation in an assembly-type event.

Bicycle Safety Rodeos: Hosted over 200 Bike rodeos throughout BC and Oregon to teach and encourage on-going, age appropriate practice to become proficient bike riders. This toolkit is one of my favourites!

Bike Rodeo+Community Ride: Skills stations followed by community ride.

Traffic Gardens: A traffic playground, or traffic garden, is a network of connected streets with traffic features that is free of motorized vehicles. Participants learn on-street skills, safety knowledge and develop confidence by navigating the streets, intersections and crossings.

Mutrie Consulting can provide teacher training on any of these programs and can work with districts to modify content and evaluation to reflect specific academic standards.
